HK SEVENS-23-25TH MARCH

HKFC Festival 11th MARCH

For the third time this season we have claimed the Plate (on display at the General's Arms Hong Lok Yuen) running in 3 great tries and defeating the South Lantau Buffaloes in the final. It is a fitting credit to all the girls who have trained hard and work as a team when it counts. The first 2 encounters against DEA1 and HKU1 were very tough and we conceded too many tries (6 & 8 respectively!!), inspite of some great rucking, winning...and then losing the ball in a counter ruck. Luckily this early damage did not dent the girls' spirit and they took HKFC(SKS) down with 4 awesome tries. The semi-final was an encounter against DEA2/HKU2 and again we ran in 4. All the girls without exception played good, hard, fair rugby and allowed our 5 try scorers (Imogen 3, Kaela 2, Rachael 4, Rosie and Sabrina) to claim the glory. But without the tackling skills of Katie, Kaela, Sabrina, Mary, Rosie, Imogen, Sarah, Charlotte and great support from Joanna, Chantal, Belle, Hei Lam, Erin and Hattie all proving how versatile they can be in both the pack and back line, we would not have claimed the prize. Thank you girls. We are all very proud of you (and you were the smartest team at the presentation!)

PETER (12/3/12)

This is a really big one for us. It is the culmination of hard work and great play by all girls in both U11 and U12 and now is a chance to prove what we have. Let's see if we can add to the 2 Plates we have won so far this season.

Please arrive by 2.45pm at Happy Valley for warm ups. First match is 3.24pm. It is important everyone turns up as we will be able to field our best team. It will be fun. Last matches are at 6.30.

Have a good lunch before you come and bring snacks and water/drinks.

REGULAR TRAINING AT HKIED ON 19TH FEBRUARY.

Update 17th February 2012

For the second time this season our feisty team have won the Plate, this time for the Valley Fort festival. For the final festival at HKFC (11th March) we are promoted to the Kim Lam Cup challenge.

On 12th February at Happy Valley with just 12 players, we had to play our best without injury. We proved we have all round scoring ability with 7 different girls putting their names on the score sheet. 7 (although only 6 were recorded) against DEA2 was a good start! The girls put 5 past HKU2 also with no reply. We were looking hot going into the final match against HKFC (SKS). Our defence paid off with several hold ups limiting the determined opposition. See the scoresheet Attached  to see we need to play our best to stay where we belong- with the bigger teams. Tackling was an area we are improving, notably Hei Lam’s try stopper. As always Kaela, Katie, Sabrina & Rosie closed down attacks, but we need to maintain our forward motion and possession especially at the breakdown. Preparation is essential both at training and arriving in plenty of time before matches..please.

11th March HK Football Club festival. Please sign up now. This festival will determine final season placings so it is important we have our best and most committed team.

23-25th March HK Sevens- we play 25th March (Sunday). You must have a ticket to be eligible to play.

TPD Festival at Happy Valley 15/1/12

At our Flying Kukris Festival we proved how strong we can be, unifying as a team and playing with fairness, spirit and able to work by communicating (luckily this is rubbing off on the boys). With promotion back up to the Cup we faced the bigger, stronger teams once again. We held HKU1 to scoring a single try. They have undoubtably been the “team to beat” for some time but we forced them back many times with an incredibly strong defence. Against DBP-who went on to win the Cup- we came apart in defence allowing their powerful runners through 3 times. We should not have gone down to DEA1 2-0 but we lost possession too many times and we need to work on our rucking and mauling. Our last match against SKS was a fierce contest and played hard as we sustained injuries. Some fine tackling as always was in evidence from Katie, Kaela and Kim (welcome back to both "stars" from injury) with Rosie, Chloe and Imogen strong too. We had some runs from our younger players with Chantal, Lotte, Sarah and Hei Lam making progress. In the scrum Eunice was a tower of strength helped by Wincy and Mary. Our players small stature makes the opposition seem powerful but we have shown that we have the ability to win when we put our skills together and work as a team. We are back in the Plate competition for the next Festival, again at Happy Valley on 12th February in the afternoon.

Training as usual ths Sunday 22/1/12 (but we will run a poll to check interest) and Kung Hei Fat Choi to all  Golden Dragons in our year "Year of the Dragon" (and everyone else too of course).

U11/12G head coach's update 7/10/11

A pleasant day out at TSW on 2nd October and some fine performances by both boys and girls. Please check out Les’ video on Youtube and you will wonder how we didn’t win everything. We won one, drew one and lost 2 or was it drew two lost one?. We had great possession and improving skills from all and camped in the opposition halves throughout. A good effort from everyone.

DB Beach rugby will be fun for us all. You need to check the information on the website and please take the bus which Mr Ko is organizing or be on the beach ready to play by 9.00! (first match is 9.30). Should finish in time for the quarter finals of the RWC…

Also on Sunday normal training at HKIED and it is bring a friend day and old boots to swop or give away.

Peter

What a great start to the season with 2 ultra hot training sessions and 20+ fine players! Welcome to the girls from U11 who have joined us for training. Thanks to Mark for running the sessions and to Alex Yuen who is joining us to add his playing and coaching technical expertise.

This Saturday we have 17 U12 (6 girls) taking part in the HKRFU organized mini World Cup. This showcase event hosted by New Zealand this year from 9th September is being mirrored here and our players join those from other clubs to represent countries participating. You may not have the country you asked for-some were more popular than others-but most of you have the position you wanted. This is a great opportunity to play, learn and have a lot of fun with players from across Hong Kong (in preparation for the New Year’s Day U12 Peninsula team!). Arrive at King’s Park at 8.30 to meet your team and coach for the day. Prize giving is at 2.30. You need full Kukris kit and a mouthguard and water.

Regular training on Sunday.

Peter
