Tai Po Festival 2012
The Flying Kukris U10 teams were up against the strongest possible competition at the recent Tai Po Festival. The victory for the FK1s against DEA Tigers 1 was exciting to see, and showed how much the squad has progressed. The commitment was magnificent. The games against HKU Sandy Bay and Football Club first sides were tough, and although the team battled hard, these big, organized teams were a bridge too far, and we struggled. We have to get used to keeping focus when behind on the scoreboard and tackling/rucking against big, fast aggressive opposition. FK2 were depleted by illness, and again it was a bit more difficult to get our teamwork going. We will lose some games against strong opposition, but as long as we are learning and getting better, this does not matter. The big lesson from the best teams we played is that we ALL need to be fully committed. Support for players stepping over the ball to make sure we keep the ball secure, helping the first tackler, and supporting runners is important. Even though we lost more games than usual, we were not completely crushed in any game, and given our small squad size, our performances were something to be proud of. We had very positive comments made about the progress of our squad by some outside coaches, and I would like to thank our coaching team again for their outstanding contribution to the development of the squad. In the coming training sessions we will work on having fun, keeping our formation, SUPPORT, as well as finding and passing into space.
Coach Gavin
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Training every Sunday as usual until our next festival on Sunday 12th Feb 2012
A special thanks to those players and parents who were able to stay on for all the squad's games on a cold, rainy day with few victories. The dedication is much appreciated.
As usual, the girls team will get together for some girls only practice later during training.

The coaching team philosophy is to work on developing the whole squad. In addition to developing rugby skills, we believe it is important to foster positive sporting attitudes and leadership qualities. Our coaching strategies and team compositions will reflect this.
Parents, please let us know if you believe we can help your child in a particular way, or if there is something that is making them unhappy – rugby should be fun. Of course any help you may be in a position to offer the squad would be appreciated! Gavin |
