U14G Team News

It was a cruel Fifteens season for the U14 Girls in 2014/15.  The closest we came to victory was 30-5 against HKU2.  The match was three periods of 15 minutes.  Bearing in mind the majority of HKU’s tries were scored in the first period, the second and third periods were very close indeed and we had the opportunity to score more than one try.

The Discovery Bay 6-a-side beach tournament displayed a new side to the girls.  They played the most aggressive (but fair) rugby to date.  Results during the afternoon were a mixed bag but the girls thoroughly enjoyed the tournament and played every match with a fighting spirit to the end (and in addition managed to stay injury free).

Sevens was a far more positive story for the U14 Girls (compared to Fifteens).  At the first Sevens tournament at Sandy Bay, although FK1 did not win any silverware, they had a remarkable 5-1 win against DBP.  This was an incredible achievement bearing in mind that they not only obliterated us in a Fifteens match just three weeks earlier but they also had an abundance of players to choose from.  FK2 fought hard and managed to win the Division 2 plate by beating USRC (DEA) 6-3 in the final.

Our second Sevens tournament at Tin Shui Wai was not a good day for us.  Missing more than a quarter of the squad (including some integral Sevens players) proved too much, particularly as each team only had one substitute.  Unfortunately, both FK teams went home without a win.  The closest match was FK2’s narrow 6-5 loss to USRC.

The final Sevens tournament, which was the All Girls Tournament at King’s Park, was overall our biggest success of the season with both FK1 & FK2 walking away with silverware.  FK1 beat HKU2 3-0 in the bowl final and FK2 beat USRC with an impressive 7-1 score line in the shield final.  It was a good way to end the season and nice to see all the girls with smiles on their faces at the end!!

Despite a very tough Fifteens season, team spirit remained extremely high and the team held together very well throughout.  In fact, three new players joined in January who showed great enthusiasm and potential.

Good luck to the senior U14 Girls who are moving up to U16G next season and it’s welcome back to the senior U12 Girls who are moving up to U14G.

Let’s hope it will be onwards & upwards for all next season……
