Flying Kukris Festivals

This season the Flying Kukris Contact Festival (U9 - UU12) will be held at Kings Park on the 2nd Dec. 2018 - just 3 weeks away. The Tai Po Marathon is being held in the morning of the 2nd Dec and will finish at EdUHK, around mid-day. This means EdUHK wil not be available for U6, U7 and U8 in the morning and training for those age groups will either be cancelled or held in the afternoon - TBC by the Team Managers.

The non-contact Festival for U6, U7 and U8 will be at EdUHK in the morning of the 9th Dec 2018.

Last season both these Festivals were very successful, but we will be looking for help. We will be looking for volunteers for pitch marshal duties, setting up, cake stall, cake baking (last year  we did really well with this - let's see if we can do better this year).

A Reminder:- Training will be cancelled for T8 or Black Rainstorm warning. A notice will be displayed on the website if the training is cancelled for this or any other reason.

Training is ON in a T3 or Amber rain warning - we will just get a little wet.

This is in line with guidance provided by the HKRU.

Registration WILL be available this Sunday at the training ground   For Flying Kukris registration and payment details please click here.

Kit collection WILL be available this Sunday from 9am to 10:30   All players are entitled to obtain new kit (one set) at any time during the season.  However, please note that the kit design is identical to last season so members can reduce waste and costs of the kit to the Club by continuing to use existing kit until it needs replacing.  The cost savings will be reinvested in providing other rugby facilities, equipment and development opportunities for players.

We have now been allocated a 2nd container at EdUHK which is located to the right of the original container. The balls, tackle bags etc have been moved to the new container, leaving more room for the kit distribution from the original stowage.

To relieve the parking problem at EdUHK, please use the Tai Po bus if possible. These buses are heavily subsidised by the club to encourage their use. If they are not used, we may have to cancel them.

Parking at HKIEd - we have received complaints from the EdUHK management about the parking on Sundays. We are NOT ALLOWED to park along the side of the road next to the stadium and also DO NOT block the lower exit. The lower exit is normally closed but is for emergency vehicles. Failure to obey EdUHK rules may result in us loosing the ground for training. Please see the map below and note there is additional parking just down the road outside EdUHK.

The Team photos shown in the slideshow above are available to order from our very own, professional photographer, Peter Inglis.

The actual prints are of exceptional quality, have no watermark and have the kid names on the photo (where available).

From personal experience I can thoroughly recommend them and they are great to look back on in years to come.

Please check the order form here for more details.

On Saturday 5th May the Flying Kukris Old Boys Team (28th Squadron)  played  against Revolution at EdUHK and won - please click here for a video. Numerous photos can be found here.

no mouthguard

I think this young lad was trying to bite Russell Jones’s head during a tackle - unfortunately for him he did not have a mouth guard.

Flying Kukris AGM

The AGM was held on the 6th May 2018 at HLYIS. Luckily the early morning rain cleared up and it was a great day.

We would like to welcome Michael Flowers who has volunteered for the position of Head of Minis

The new Committee can be seen here on the Committee page.

FK Players meet & train with England Sevens Team

FK England team training

Following a draw by secret ballot, 5 deserving Flying Kukris players were selected to take part in the inaugural Canterbury sponsored interactive training session with 3 members of the England Men’s Sevens Team.

The training event was held at Harrow International School, Tuen Mun on Sunday 1 April 2018 and was overseen by host Mr. Barney Durrant of Harrow International School.

The 5 players selected from Contact age groups U9 – U14, were drawn from a list of coach nominated “season best performers”.

Those selected to participate were

U14B Jeffrey Parkes, U14G Jade Scrouther, U12B Daniel Thomas, U12G Katie Adams & U10B Dylan Fu.

In addition to meeting and being coached by 3 England Sevens star players, each participant was given a commemorative Canterbury T-Shirt. The 2 hour session comprised drills, games, Q&A’s, photo-shoot & an autograph session. Our FK players were joined by players from Hong Kong Football Club, Island School and Harrow International School all of which use Canterbury kit.

The session went extremely well and the Players had a cracking time.

Player Jade Scrouther said afterwards "It was great to spend time with Charlie, Will and Alex.  We had a lot of fun doing some drills and trying new moves with them and the boys."

All thanks should be given to Anna Holmes (Sales Manager Asia – International Business Manager  - Pentland Asia) who brokered the arrangement and to FK’s very own Kit Manager Melissa Jupp who used her charm and business guile to secure the involvement of our FK players. Also thanks go to our hosts Mr Barney Durrant and Harrow International School.

Hopefully this event will be offered again next season, so watch out and work hard kids.

Natalee has a go in the Mud!

Natalee (U14G) is one of the sharpest, most determined and most ferocious players we have in Flying Kukris RFC. Whilst she’s a lovely, quiet and unassuming girl she’s never slow at getting stuck in to the Rugby action, wherever she can find it. She’s so keen she even takes her rugby gear on Holiday!

Natalee England 2018 2

So whilst on a visit to England over Easter she sought out the local playing fields and found just what she wanted and immediately just got stuck into the rugby, mud and fun.

Playing for a new club “Shrewsbury” U13 girls, she found herself in a tough match facing off against Worcester, the Midlands Champions, who ultimately won the game 7 tries to 3.

Natalee England 2018

Natalee, perfectly at ease with a new team of girls she didn’t know,  immediately made a massive impact and played an ever increasingly important role in the game, putting in tackle after tackle she opened the scoring with the first try. She also took on all kicking duties and helped the new Shrewsbury team to hold their own against the more organised and disciplined West Midlands Champions.

Impressed with Natalee’s performance, the Shrewsbury coach commented “the standard in Hong Kong is clearly higher than in England…so when can she join Shrewsbury?”

The Shrewsbury Coach and U13 girls were also really impressed to hear that Hong Kong U13 girls play full size pitches, not half size pitches, as in the UK.

The Shrewsbury girls were welcoming and friendly and asked Natalee lots of questions about rugby in Hong Kong and the club she played for… and when can she play for them again?

But poaching aside, it was not all plain sailing, Natalee did have some trouble dealing with the slippery and muddy conditions when running and kicking, but in the end the smiles say it all and she had a fabulous muddy time and made some great new friends.

But best of all Natalee was super impressed with the after match reception where the girls were well looked after in fantastic facilities, treated to showers, food and soft drinks whilst the club organised all the girls dirty laundry!!
